National Young Worker Safety Resource Center The National Young Worker Safety Resource Center (YWSRC) is a collaborative project of U.C. Berkeley’s Labor Occupational Health Program (LOHP) and the Education Development Center, Inc. (EDC) in Massachusetts. Young workers have high rates of job-related injury. These injuries are often the result of the many hazards present in the places they typically work, such as sharp knives and slippery floors in restaurants. Limited or no prior work experience and a lack of safety training also contribute to high injury rates. Recruitment efforts can pull from a variety of places throughout the school and community. Work with staff and youth to plan outreach efforts, that can take place in some of the following areas: Existing youth programs; School leadership programs, community service clubs, sports teams, and after-school groups.
